2010 Year Up

About Year Up
Year Up is a one-year, intensive training program that provides urban young adults ages 18-24 with a unique combination of technical, professional and communication skills, an educational stipend and corporate internship.

As part of Year Up National Capital Region’s accreditation through Northern Virginia Community College, Year Up students also earn up to 18 college credits through the courses they take here.

Year Up recognizes the Opportunity Divide in this country. There are more than 4.3 million youth in this country have not progressed beyond a high school diploma and are neither employed nor enrolled in postsecondary education." (Kids Count Data Book, 2006) Youth experiencing this "disconnection" from the economic mainstream make up nearly 15% of all 18-24 year olds, and illustrate the magnitude of a national Opportunity Divide that is getting worse.

Year Up’s mission is to help close this divide by preparing young adults for successful careers and higher education; our success is our graduates:
- 90% of interns meet or exceed internship partner expectations

- 87% of graduates placed in full or part-time positions within 4 months of graduation

- Graduates earn an average of $15/hr in post-program employment
