Fellows: 2010 Roles

In 2010, ProInspire is partnering with nonprofit organizations working in the following areas:
- International Development: organizations focused on poverty reduction, global health, and social innovation
- Social Entrepreneurship: organizations run by social entrepreneurs that are growing innovative models for social change
- Social Investing: organizations providing capital to support entrepreneurship, microfinance, community development finance, and affordable housing
- Youth and Education: organizations focused on K-12 education, college preparation, youth development, and workforce development

Candidates will be considered for the following opportunities during the second round of selection for 2010 Inspire Fellows.

DC Prep, Operations Manager
Now in its seventh year, DC Prep has built an excellent early childhood, elementary and middle school program and demonstrated uncommon success in student achievement, and organizational development. DC Prep’s Operations Manager is a key member of the school‘s leadership team, working closely with the School Principal to ensure that the school is a great success. Specifically, the Operations Manager will have five primary functions: overseeing daily operational activities; overseeing business administration; providing general administrative oversight and support for the school; supporting student recruitment and enrollment processes; and assisting with academic intervention initiatives. The Operations Manager reports to the Chief Operating Officer in the Home Office.

DC Public Schools, Office of Secondary School Transformation, Business Analyst
The Inspire Fellow will work directly with the Director of the Office on Secondary School Transformation on major initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
-
Data Analysis and Strategy:The Fellow will analyze key drivers of secondary school performance. The Fellow will work with team members on understanding the metrics that drive performance and developing strategies to move forward. DCPS has a huge amount of data and the Fellow should be adept at gathering, analyzing, and presenting data.
- Project Management and Performance Management
: Currently the Office of Secondary School Transformation has a large number of projects and initiatives. The Fellow will be the Director’s point person for tracking and coordinating projects. By coordinating staffing and deliverables, the Fellow will drive the department’s performance management and gain insight into how to effectively manage a large number of staff and projects.
- Project Management for Test Administration
: The Chancellor has identified two major priorities around testing – getting all 9th graders tested on the PSAT, and increasing the number of students taking AP tests. The Fellow will serve as project manager, directly interacting with all the schools to make sure they successfully administer the PSAT, AP, SAT, and ACT tests. This is a high visibility initiative and the Fellow should be comfortable managing communication with different stakeholders.

Year Up, Special Projects Manager
Fellow will work on special projects associated with
:
- local site and learning community expansion

- Year Up's expansion to Baltimore

- national and local human capital initiatives that include training and development

- working with various department directors and the Executive Director to execute project goals

- leverage their experience and skills in project management, financial modeling, strategy and analysis while collaborating with our team and learning about Year Up’s strategy and methodology

- Fellow may also work directly with students as a member of a Learning Community

Association for Enterprise Opportunity, Project Manager of New Initiatives
Project Manager of New Initiatives will report to the SVP of Membership and New Initiatives, and will be a part of a new evolution of the U. S. microenterprise/microfinance industry. This AEO division acts as the center for innovation for new products and services to the smallest of businesses and the organizations that serve them.

This role is responsible for staying on the cutting edge of credit, savings, technology and other trends and interpreting and disseminating their cross-cutting potential impact and application to the microenterprise/microfinance industry. Many of these emerging trends will create a pipeline of opportunities to drive significant transformation to the industry.
 
The Project Manager of New Initiatives will be responsible for incubating a pipeline of pilot initiatives and launching, if not scaling, those initiatives with the greatest potential for impact. S/he will partner with SMAs, members, corporate partners and others in identifying and implementing new enhanced microenterprise/microfinance approaches from the aforementioned pipeline. This pipeline could include a syndication of capital for capacity building of MDOs poised for growth—to a line of new financing products for micro businesses—to new technologies and field infrastructure.

Association for Enterprise Opportunity, Project Manager of US Microfinance Industry Strategy

Working directly with the President and CEO, this position will perform advanced microfinance-related analysis in the broad context of job creation, financial services and economic opportunity to inform industry restructuring and AEO’s strategic planning, and multi-year financing decisions. S/he will work with senior management to integrate and interpret results, and communicate the resulting information in briefings, presentations and publications. This position will lead analytical teams of board, strategic partners and members on high profile, complex tasks and interpret results to provide decision support for stakeholders. The position will also plan and perform specific task-related analysis with limited guidance.
 
The Project Manager will be responsible for defining effective approaches to address a variety of issues important to informing   strategies on how to grow a robust and sustainable microfinance industry. S/he will perform and lead analyses of microfinance technology, related industry (savings, credit and payments) market analysis, policy and environmental issues, particularly related to informing microfinance restructuring program and strategic planning.

Corporation for Enterprise Development, Project Manager for Social Enterprise and Economic Innovation
The goal of this role will be to advance CFED’s existing and emerging social enterprises and to explore opportunities for CFED’s programs to generate earned income through product development, strategic alliances and related strategies.

Specific responsibilities may include:
- Lead the development of CFED’s social enterprise and earned income strategies
- Screen social enterprise opportunities for viability and investment and make recommendations to President and Executive Team.
- Work with program staff to review current programs for earned income potential, oversee implementation of ideas that have high potential.
- Provide advice and input on new program design to incorporate earned income strategies and social enterprise principles.
- Structure and negotiate agreements with businesses, national and local nonprofit partners, and federal agencies as appropriate.

Credit Builders Alliance, Special Projects Manager
Working closely with the Executive Director of Credit Builders Alliance, the Special Projects Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative solutions to help non-traditional financial and asset building institutions serve low and moderate income individuals. The Special Projects Manager will work with Credit Builders Alliance partners, including national credit reporting agencies, community lenders, US microfinance organizations, and grassroots nonprofits providing financial education.
 
Projects may include:
- Analyzing business models, products and best practices for a) providing intermediary services to nonprofits that help serve low and moderate income entrepreneurs and homeowners; and b) to help low and moderate income entrepreneurs and homeowners survive and thrive in the current economy
- Developing a 3-year business plan for working with credit bureaus and banks to support nonprofits providing financial services and financial education
- Evaluating how changes in the Fair Credit Reporting Act, credit reporting industry and credit industry will impact lenders and low-income consumers
- Developing and launching 2-year communication and outreach strategy to double our membership by 2012
- Researching the state and development of the credit building field and the increase in nonprofits providing credit building products

Family Health International, Business Planning and Strategy Analyst
As a member of the Business Planning and Strategy (BPS) unit, the Fellow will work directly with the Director of BPS, Vice President of Business Development, and Senior Vice President of Strategic Development and Communications, playing the primary analytical role and key leadership and strategic thinking roles in initiatives relating to improving the effectiveness of FHI’s business development effort.
Responsibilities may involve:

- Performing a variety of analyses to make business development data useful in decisions
- Performing research to understand competitor strategies
- Developing tools for competitive analysis
and business analysis
- Developing recommendations on competitive strategy

- Recommending improvements to systems and processes
- Supporting leadership in various projects as necessary

Global Giving, Business Intelligence Analyst
The Business Intelligence Analyst will be the lead gatherer and presenter of intelligence about GlobalGiving efforts to maximize mission-related impact and operate and grow in a sustainable manner.  The emphasis of the position is on quantifying the effectiveness of various partnership and outreach strategies, measuring the performance of the website and related properties, and general resource utilization and efficiency.  In addition, the Business Intelligence Analyst will help define strategies for the direction of and enhancements to the Foundation and www.globalgiving.org, for broader online visibility, deeper partnerships, greater return on mission and investment, and for customer stewardship.

The Business Intelligence Analyst reports to the Senior Vice President of Operations, but often takes direction from other members of the management team, and works in collaboration with all parts of the GlobalGiving organization.

Rare, Special Projects Manager

Working closely with Rare’s senior management, the Special Projects Manager will be responsible for leading several key projects critical to achievement of Rare’s strategic goals in FY2011. The ideal candidate for this position has proven success in writing, research, synthesis, and project management, and excels when leading cross-functional projects and when working independently.
 
The position’s responsibilities will include an exciting combination of strategic organizational development, communications and marketing writing and reporting, and other ad hoc projects designed by the Special Projects Manager with members of Rare’s Leadership Team. Each project will require skills in strategic thinking, research, analysis of qualitative data, as well as superb interpersonal skills the ability to successfully collaborate with various levels of staff within the organization, and the ability to develop a compelling argument in oral and written format.
