Introducing 2013 ProInspire Fellow Jennifer Mok

Name: Jennifer Mok
Hometown: Houston, TX
Previous Organization: Accenture
Current Organization: FHI360

What inspired you to apply for ProInspire?

Wanting to do non-profit work more than just outside working hours and see what it’s like devoting all of me to something I’m passionate about! I heard you meet great people as well.

Is this your first time in the non-profit sector?

It’s my first time working for a non-profit full-time. I’ve been involved in my current community in Houston quite heavily, as well as overseas in Africa. I’ve done some strategy and operations consulting for non-profits, as well as, more hands-on work on the ground. All have been a variety of challenging, yet very rewarding experiences. I’m excited to see how the role I will be in at FHI360 will compare and differ from my previous experiences.

What is your professional background and areas of expertise?

I’ve done management consulting for the past few years for a variety of clients. I love working in teams and driving value through process improvement, stakeholder engagement/analyses, and communication.

What are your hobbies or extracurricular activities outside of work?

I’m a huge FOODIE. I love food, and will go to great heights to find the hole-in-the-wall coffee shops, cafes, or bungalows that serve good and creative food. I also love sports – both watching and playing (primarily soccer, flag football, or basketball). Other interests include reading, cooking, traveling, and doing new things.

What is one thing you can’t live without professionally?

Google and snacks!

What blogs or websites do you read on a daily basis?

SeriousEats, coffee blogs, news blogs/feeds, and the blogs of my friends and family.

Where else have you lived?

I’ve lived in Houston most of my life, Chicago for part of it (until I realized it was too cold), and for temporary amounts of time I lived abroad in Hong Kong and different areas of Africa.

On a typical Friday night, what might you be found doing?

Depends on my mood, but probably would involve some drinks and food with good company. If I’m feeling introverted though, probably drinks and food with just me and a good book.
