“I am committed to facilitating tangible and enduring change because I have an innate passion and connection to the students who are most underserved.”
My Background
I grew up in a small community in rural Mississippi, where everyone knows you and accountability for your reputation is key to survival. It is also a place where respect for others and good manners are as valued as a strong education. My grandparents were educators and our dinner conversations often focused on the importance of college and life long learning. My background instilled in me a set of values that have shaped my outlook on life. Inquisitiveness, a strong work ethic, determination, and a passion for helping those around define who I am and how I will enhance my community.
My first job out of college was in corporate finance at Accenture. I developed sound financial management practices on multiple consulting engagements, and after three years I felt I was ready to contribute effectively to the education sector.
My Fellowship
I spent my Fellowship year as a Business Analyst with DC Public Schools, where my main role was to support the College Readiness Team under the Office of the Chief Academic Officer. My responsibilities consisted of analytical support for the team; special projects management such as the PSAT roll-out; and the creation of a performance management system.
My Impact
I managed the hiring process for DCPS Summer School. A more senior and tenured person typically handles this task, but the team trusted me to recruit and select 150 teachers and staff for the summer school program. I also implemented a performance management system to improve the District’s effectiveness through a rigorous use of data to regularly assess district and school performance.
My Next
I’m still dedicated to the education sector. After earning my MBA from The Fuqua School at Duke University in 2013, I worked as a Strategy Consultant in the Education practice at The Parthenon Group (Parthenon/EY). My client list spanned the public and private sectors, including universities, school districts, private equity clients, for-profit institutions, foundations, and policy organizations.
I recently joined Fullbridge, Inc., an education technology company based in Boston that focuses on preparing students and young professionals to succeed in the global economy. The field of education is one of the most complex and misunderstood challenges facing America today, and I’m proud to dedicate my career to helping advance its goals.
