You Know About Your IQ, How About Your EQ?
Jennifer Gillins and Monisha Kapila, ProInspire
Emotional intelligence is considered the most critical factor to workplace success. But what is emotional intelligence? Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage emotions in yourself and others. This interactive session will focus on understanding your emotional intelligence and how it relates to your work. The presenter, certified in emotional intelligence assessments, will introduce elements of emotional intelligence, lead participants through a selfassessment, and facilitate small group activities where participants will practice their emotional intelligence skills.

Reframing Human Services: Creating a New Narrative for the Sector
Bridget McCabe, Project Manager, National Human Services Assembly, 2012 ProInspire Fellow, 2014 ProInspire Management Fellow
This session will introduce participants to the concept of framing, review initial results from a new study on how human services are currently framed, and discuss potential strategies for an ongoing effort by the National Human Services Assembly, the American Public Human Services Association, and a broader network of human services providers to reframe how the public understands the work of the sector. The concept of framing uses an interdisciplinary research method to understand how the values and metaphors used in different public policy arenas connect – and fail to connect – with common underlying cultural frames that shape how individuals give meaning to social issues. Using research conducted by the Frameworks Institute, the session will review the current “story” that the sector tells about its goals and values, and identify the gaps where it fails to resonate with the public’s underlying frames. This research has farreaching implications into how the general public and policy makers understand the nonprofit sector as a whole. The session will conclude with a discussion of how the sector can apply this research in ways that builds public will to improve outcomes for children, families, and the communities the nonprofit sector serves.

What’s Your Story? Developing Your Career Narrative
Monisha Kapila, ProInspire
What is your story? Do you have a career narrative? This session will focus on developing your career narrative for finding jobs, applying to graduate school, and expanding your network. A career narrative or story is critical in building trust as you pursue career transitions. This session will help participants understand why they need a career narrative and the five key elements of a career narrative. Participants will have opportunity to see examples, write their own career narrative, practice with a partner, and get feedback.
