Altavia Ray

Program Director, The Literacy Lab

Altavia Ray has been a Program Director with The Literacy Lab since 2010. Initially, her role involved starting up and implementing extended learning literacy instruction in four Maryland school districts. More recently, her role has been to develop and manage The Literacy Lab’s largest after-school program and literacy program at the largest homeless family shelter in Washington, DC. Ms. Ray has a decade of experience in program development and management. Altavia earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Howard University and is a Maryland-certified Speech-Language Pathology Assistant. Going on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education, with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction from Trinity University where she researched current issues in public education and developed a sample curriculum for improving reading achievement.
