Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), Special Projects Manager

Blair Hewes is a ProInspire Fellow at the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC), an award winning, nationally recognized multi-service agency serving all low-income youth in the District of Columbia and Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties.  As Special Projects Manager she will be working on the development of a strategic plan and the launch of a new charter school, LAYC Career Academy, a GED+ program targeting youth who have not succeeded in traditional high schools which will open in September 2012.  Prior to joining LAYC, Blair spent four years in the book publishing industry as a literary agent at Dunham Literary, Inc.  In addition to working with the Agency’s list of New York Times bestselling and award winning authors, she specialized in representing authors of books for children. Titles she represented include the young adult book Illegal by Bettina Restrepo and the book of science poetry for middle graders At the Sea Floor Café by Leslie Bulion. Blair has been an active volunteer through New York Cares in literacy and education programming. She graduated from Middlebury College with BA in American Literature with a focus on American History and a minor in Economics.
