Year Up Bay Area, Communications Specialist

Idelle Delapena is a ProInspire Fellow at Year Up Bay Area, a national organization that seeks to close the Opportunity Divide by providing urban young adults with the skills, experience and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education. As Communications Specialist, she works with all departments to promote awareness and increase exposure of Year Up Bay Area’s accomplishments and successful student stories. Her work includes creating a strategic marketing and social media plan and creating processes to improve unification of internal and external messaging of the Year Up Bay Area brand. Prior to joining Year Up Bay Area, Idelle worked at Genentech analyzing patient files to screen eligibility for free drug. She also worked at the National Asian American Coalition, a HUD-approved home counseling agency, which worked with government regulators (FTC, FDIC, CPUC, OCC, Federal Reserve) to ensure the minority voice is heard in public policy relating to the housing market. At the NAAC, she acted as a relationship liaison for corporate sponsors, elected officials and the media. Idelle graduated with a Physiology/Neuroscience degree from the University of California, San Diego. She enjoys taking classes at her local gym and has been a Laker fan since childhood.
