ProInspire article on Bridgespan: Five Ways to Build and Maintain Staff Diversity

Yesterday The Bridgespan Group published an article by ProInspire: Five Ways to Build and Maintain Staff Diversity.

This article was co-authored by Monisha Kapila, ProInspire Founder and CEO, and Peter Vincent, Vice President of Human Resources at the National Audubon Society. Monisha was part of Independent Sector’s 2013 American Express NGen Fellows cohort that selected the National Audubon Society for a project focused on strategies for talent diversity. Through their work, the NGen Fellows and Audubon surfaced ways the organization could increase its diversity. Their research provides useful advice to other nonprofits interested in building and maintaining a diverse workforce.

ProInspire’s experience recruiting and developing diverse emerging leaders through the ProInspire Fellowship (63% of Fellows are persons of color) and Managing for Success (47% of Management Fellows are persons of color) was reinforced in the NGen Fellows recommendations for Audubon.  Five key opportunities highlighted in this article for organizations working to build staff diversity are:
1. Tap into a larger, more diverse talent pool
2. Build diverse staff, management, and boards across state programs
3. Keep and develop existing staff
4. Promote a culture of and build capabilities around diversity and inclusion
5. Strengthen engagement with communities of color to generate trust
