ProInspire Launches Managing for Success

Program will provide new nonprofit managers with management tools and peer support

Washington, DC—ProInspire, a nonprofit dedicated to developing leaders within the social sector, is piloting Managing for Success, a new program that will help prepare first-time nonprofit managers.

The pilot, which is funded in part by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, launches in Washington D.C. on July 15 and will focus on three key areas – Managing Self, Managing Others, and Managing Organization. ProInspire began developing this program last year based on feedback from nonprofit partners about the lack of professional development opportunities for early to mid career professionals. In 2013, ProInspire conducted a survey in which 50% of nonprofit managers said they did not have the knowledge, experience, and resources to be successful. 94% of managers said they are interested in receiving leadership or managerial training.

“Managing for Success is specifically designed to help new managers sharpen their skills so that they will be more effective in their roles,” said Monisha Kapila, Founder and CEO of ProInspire. “The program supports our primary mission at ProInspire—to build the next generation of nonprofit leaders so that they will be better prepared to make a difference in the world.”

The five month program will combine training and peer support with interactive workshops, assessments, peer coaching, small cohort activities, webinars, and leading management readings. Participants will explore topics such as delegation, handling difficult conversations, and discovering one’s own leadership style. Twenty professionals, all of whom have less than five years of management experience, have been selected to participate in the program. They work at a variety of top national and local nonprofits, such as Accion, Communities in Schools, and Share Our Strength. ProInspire plans to begin expanding the program to other cities in 2014.
