As I shared with our updated theory of change, we are going to be focused on programs and activities that advance our mission, “activating leaders at all levels to accelerate equity at the individual, organizational, and systems levels.”
So what can you expect from us this year?
Strategy 1: Support individuals to accelerate equity and leadership
We will offer two cohorts of our popular Managing for Success program in Washington, DC (Spring and Fall), with a refreshed curriculum to apply an equity lens. We are also launching Coaching for Impact to provide leaders at all levels with affordable access to an executive coaching engagement.
Strategy 2: Strengthen organizations to accelerate equity and leadership
We will partner with nonprofits, foundations, and social impact organizations to deliver programs for their teams, including workshops, retreats, and coaching.
New this year is the rollout of our race equity curriculum through our custom program work. This program supports organizations to build capacity of staff to address the four levels of racism so they can center race equity in their work. Key areas for learning and discussion include:
- Personal: Understand your own contributions to inequity/equity in the work and the workplace
- Interpersonal: Build inclusive relationships grounded in equity within and beyond the organization
- System: Analyze the causes of inequity and the impact of strategies to lead towards equity with a systemic lens
- Organization: Codify a commitment to equity – within culture, practice, and goals – for your own work and across the organization
We are also excited to partner with other leading capacity building organizations on some upcoming cohort programs for foundation grantees to advance race equity at the board and staff levels.
Strategy 3: Influence and equip the social sector to accelerate equity and leadership
Equity in the Center will further its work to create resources and convene stakeholders around building a Race Equity Culture. In 2019, offerings will include [email protected] (a multimedia content library designed to spark action) and a DEI Expert Hub to support organizations in finding a consultant. Check out our publications, resources, and articles here, including the recent post, So You Want to Hire an Equity Consultant.
Two additional areas of focus for our sector work in 2019 include the pilot and publication of a leadership competency model with a race equity lens, and a celebration of our 10 year anniversary with a series of events.
Our work is only possible through partnerships with leaders, social impact organizations, and foundations. Please reach out to share more about your priorities this year and ways that we can partner to advance our common goals.
